Ul-haq House, Batley

Any form of development within the curtilage of a listed building will present its own set of challenges, and here we were tasked with obtaining planning approval for an expansive Los Angeles-style villa within the gardens of the grade 2 listed Hyrstlands House.

The crisp, white exterior of the Ul-haq house, free from any ornament, is in some ways the antithesis of the 1891 Hyrstlands with its rusticated and Ionic pilasters, but the two houses complement each another, creating a feeling of harmony.
A tall order, but with the help of our team of consultants, we were able to obtain permission for this luxury home, boasting a swimming pool and seven bedrooms.

The Ul-Haq house is the modern equivalent to the mill-owner’s house: a testament to the achievements of its owner and a luxury home for his family.
