Ted Hughes Theatre
  • Calder High School in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire was built in the 1950's and housed an excellent theatre facility which was in need of urgent remodelling in order to maximise it's teaching potential. This image shows the poor condition of the original facility.
  • This image shows the curved wall at the rear of the auditorium. The state of repair was typical of the whole theatre.
  • The same curved wall can be seen behind the new state-of-the-art sound and lighting control room suspended above the new audience seating.
  • This image shows the bleacher type seating stored away under the sound and lighting control room. The whole operation is controlled electronically, converting the theatre into a versatile teaching or performance space at the touch of a button.
  • The most significant investment in the project was in the construction of a professional sound and lighting control room. This room is suspended above the seating on a delicate steel frame. This image shows the exposed frame.
  • A bespoke staircase links the sound and lighting room with the auditorium floor. amended text - amended text again.
